Board of Directors

Colton Thiessen

Colton works on his family’s ranch - Lazy J Bar Livestock, rides at the East Borden Grazing Co-op pasture and works part-time at a neighbour’s ranch.

Colton began his involvement in the CRRA after his father suggested he might enjoy roping. One winter he went to Adam Thiessen’s place to practice roping off his horse. He started in the Novice group and watch the Open ropers always asking questions about how to swing different loops. As his skills progressed with roping and handling the cow on a rope, his horsemanship improved. He then moved into the Open group and eventually began to judge in competitions. Colton has been a member for 9 years and became a Director at the 2019 AGM.

“Never be afraid to ask questions as everyone is friendly and willing to help! It is an opportunity to learn stress free, safe handling of livestock.”

If you would like to speak to Colton about the Canadian Ranch Roping Association or have questions or comments he would be happy to help. Colton’s number is 1-306-222-3045.

They have a desire to expand their cattle herd in the future.

Ray joined the CRRA in 2012. He feels that being a member of the Association is beneficial for those wanting to learn from others in the horse/cattle industry. Competitors are willing to share their knowledge, skills and talents to help seasoned participants as well as others who are less experienced in ranch roping. He appreciates the encouragement that one receives to improve their cattle handling skills and horsemanship abilities. Another benefit is that he is able to bring his young family to the ropings and knows that they will be welcomed and encouraged no matter their skill level.

He believes that the CRRA promotes a traditional way of life and way of handling cattle. He enjoys the competition but it is the comraderie and support that all members receive that makes it an enjoyable experience for him. Anyone who is interested in improving their horsemanship and roping skills, handling stock in a low stress manner and learn while having fun is welcome.

If you would like to speak to Ross about the Canadian Ranch Roping Association or have questions or comments he would be happy to help. Ross’s number is 1-306-630-8542.
